The number four is powerful in many traditions, notably Sufism and Native American religions. In Judaism, it is associated with Kabbalah, the concept of the Sephirot, and the four letters (Yod-He-Vav-He), the unpronounceable sacred Name. If the four letters are placed vertically, the layout looks remarkably like a human body, as Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi (z’l) has taught. The letters are traditionally interpreted as:

Y – Atzilut – Fire - Being
H – B’riyah – Air - Knowledge
V – Yetzirah – Water - Feeling
H – Assiyah – Action – Action

In this pendant, these four elements are represented by

  • Eye – Being/Spirit
  • Hand – Knowledge/Intellect, which makes new things
  • Heart (embedded in the Magen David) – Feeling/Emotion
  • Rooster – the physical body that acts in the world; even the rooster knows the difference between day and night (morning blessings)

Specifications:

  • Color variations: Sterling silver with cobalt glass beads, or yellow bronze with blue glass beads.
  • Weight and size: 2" long by about 3/4" wide. The Bronze, fully assembled but without a chain, weighs a little more than 1/3 oz, the Silver a little less than 1/2 oz
  • Care instructions: Sterling might occasionally need polishing to remove tarnish, like any silver item, but will usually remain bright. Yellow bronze  may tend to tarnish when worn against skin, depending on your body chemistry, becoming darker and less shiny. All items can be buffed with a silver cloth or cleaned with polishes made for precious metals.

(*) 20” sterling or gold-plated chains can be purchased separately.
