Four Worlds pendant
Four Worlds pendant
The number four is powerful in many traditions, notably Sufism and Native American religions. In Judaism, it is associated with Kabbalah, the concept of the Sephirot, and the four letters (Yod-He-Vav-He), the unpronounceable sacred Name. If the four letters are placed vertically, the layout looks remarkably like a human body, as Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi (z’l) has taught. The letters are traditionally interpreted as:
Y – Atzilut – Fire - Being
H – B’riyah – Air - Knowledge
V – Yetzirah – Water - Feeling
H – Assiyah – Action – Action
In this pendant, these four elements are represented by
- Eye – Being/Spirit
- Hand – Knowledge/Intellect, which makes new things
- Heart (embedded in the Magen David) – Feeling/Emotion
- Rooster – the physical body that acts in the world; even the rooster knows the difference between day and night (morning blessings)
